COVID-19

Serving Southern Arizona

The CDC says, “Disinfectants kill germs on surfaces. By killing germs on a surface after cleaning, you can further lower the risk of spreading infection”.

Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces are important because the coronavirus can live on surfaces for several days. Additionally, pathogenic bacteria that causes illness such as Norovirus, C. Diff., and MRSA can survive for many months given the right conditions.

Reducing the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and pathogenic bacteria requires a combination of personal responsibility as well as maintaining strict cleaning and disinfecting procedures to reopen the places we work, learn, eat, and sleep. To this end, everyone has a responsibility to slow the spread of the virus through infection prevention measure such as social distancing, wearing face masks, and frequent hand washing as well as using alcohol based (60% alcohol) sanitizers. Touching a contaminated surface and then touching your face dramatically increases the likelihood of infection.

At GermFree not only do we support and adhere to the latest CDC guidelines for but we strive to go beyond the minimum requirements in the following ways as articulated in the CDC’s “Cleaning and Disinfecting: Public Spaces, Businesses, Schools, and Homes” guidelines:

CDC Guideline

“Normal routine cleaning with soap and water to decrease how much of the virus is on surfaces and objects.”

GermFree Recommendation

Routine cleaning with synthetic cleaning wipes/towels and the appropriate detergent removes bio-organic solids on surfaces and objects more effectively; and MUST be performed prior to a disinfectant being applied. Otherwise, your disinfectant treatment may be less effective in reducing infection risk. Additionally, the frequency of routine cleaning should be based on the environmental conditions (e.g. food service and prep areas) and risk tolerance of the population (e.g. healthcare facilities).

Our GermSafe Disinfection service incorporates a surface pre-treatment step that improves the effectiveness of the disinfectant and is environmentally friendly with no harsh chemical residue or smell. We will also advise you on the best techniques and solutions for effective routine cleaning and disinfecting between service intervals while minimizing environmental hazards. This includes surface testing conducted during our service visit to measure the concentration of contaminants. This a highly effective tool to identify high risk contact areas and the effectiveness of your routine cleaning and disinfecting process.

CDC Guideline

“Disinfection using EPA-approved disinfectants against COVID-19 can also help reduce risk. Frequent disinfection of surfaces and objects touched by multiple people is important.”

GermFree Recommendation

EPA List N is a lengthy, summary of all SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) approved disinfectants. Each listed disinfectant has guidelines related to dwell times, contact times, formulation, and application. Additionally, each product contains a safety data sheet (SDS) with detailed technical specifications and usage warnings. At GermFree, we’ve done the research and validation to provide a List N disinfectant with a 99.9999% germ kill rate. This hospital grade, aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution has a log 6 kill with the benefit of being environmentally friendly and no leaves no harmful residue.

However, any disinfectant is only as good as the duration of its ability to kill germs and lower infection risk. Our GermSafe Disinfection service uses an additional disinfectant inhibitor that when applied with an electrostatic sprayer can provide up to 90-days of germ fighting protection. That means your routine cleaning and disinfecting combined with the GermSafe Disinfection service performed at 90-day intervals is a powerful infection fighting plan that gives you the confidence to get back to work and play.
